A new federal cabinet, how the provincial parties are doing and the high water mark for Alberta separatism, all this and more on this week's episode of The Writ.
I was a bit surprised about Garneau. If it is true that he is going to get a diplomatic posting, that isn't a bad consolation prize. I think it was partly a question of the regional and gender balance issue — when I looked at the list of men that made it to cabinet, it is hard to find an obvious male cabinet minister to pull in favour of Garneau that wouldn't have caused some other political fallout.
What are your thoughts on Marc Garneau being booted? I think it shows Trudeau getting rid of the last bit of the Old Guard.
I too was surprised that Bardish Chagger got booted.
I agree that Gudie Hutchings was the biggest surprise since she was just a generic backbencher for 6 years.
The worst pick for me is Kamal Khera. The Minister of Seniors should not be 32.
Thanks.
