I have to say, overall, a fairly uninspiring election.

I'm always curious why folks vote for x or y, whereas the polling is typically just crunching numbers. Obviously the reasons can be highly variable, nevertheless, given that the point of democracy in principle is to influence government policy, should we assume voters' intentions simply mimic the rhetoric produced by campaigns which tend to often be the repetition of slogans?

So are the slogans winning or do folks have other reasons for voting x or y that the polls and slogans fail to capture? (Rhetorical question...)
