I agree these criteria are better than those used in 2019 because they are objective but would like to see debate invitations restricted further to include only those with a legitimate chance of forming government or official opposition based on polling numbers. This would exclude the Greens, Bernier and the AB/SASK renegade party but include the Bloc and the NDP. I hope.

For large parts of their history (especially between 1993 and 2008), the NDP did not have a legitimate chance of forming government or official opposition. If we had therefore relegated them to the little kids' table, it's possible they would still be there today.

True but I assume that the Commission would reconsider who is to be invited every election based upon the same criteria but the then current information

I agree with you Eric, these criteria seem strong in that they objectively allow what most of us consider the mainstream political main-stays to participate, while limiting the involvement of fringe parties. Setting the bar higher would likely exclude legitimate main-stay parties like the Greens who at this point have been around long enough to qualify.
