After an evening of watching the mess that is American politics, it was refreshing to read about the by-election in Cornwall-Meadowbank, PEI. Thanks Eric

August and September were during the election. Therefore, the fundraising includes some spicy rhetoric and voter/donor intensity. What is not likely public but germain here is where that money goes....party budgets would be super interesting. Probably to pay off existing campaign debt, agency retainers..... If Erin O'Toole starts wearing fur coats and gold necklaces to Parliament, then we know some of that 23M is getting misused.

Hi Eric Not sure if you're into discussing municipal politics but I was wondering if the recent elections of relatively "progressive" mayors in Calgary, Edmonton and Montreal is part of a pattern. Perhaps a backlash to provincial governments? Or perhaps part of an entrenched urban-rural split that is reflected in federal voting patterns? Could be a good topic for a podcast.

It is interesting, but I'm not sure if it is a pattern or trend, since in Calgary and Edmonton the new progressive mayors replaced outgoing progressive mayors (elected when the NDP was in power) and Plante was re-elected in Montreal. Maybe it is more of a reminder that urban politics in general are more progressive as a whole, and conservative candidates struggle as much to win mayors' offices as they do seats in big cities.
