The Weekly Writ for Jan. 19
Candidate news out of Ontario and Quebec, troubling polls for Doug Ford and François Legault, and the first and only defeat for John A. Macdonald.
Welcome to the Weekly Writ, a round-up of the latest federal and provincial polls, election news and political trivia that lands in your inbox every Wednesday morning.
Lots to cover in this installment of the Weekly Writ, starting with the sad news of the passing of an NDP trailblazer. There’s also some candidate news out of both Ontario and Quebec, as well as some new polls from the two provinces, a byelection that’s been called in Saskatchewan, and we get our quarterly update on how all of the premiers are doing.
In the recurring segments, I take a look at an Ontario riding that is setting up to be a stiff contest between the Progressive Conservatives and New Democrats, an election that proved to be Sir John A.’s only defeat, and we mark a milestone for Doug Ford (if he can just put his shovel away).
Let’s get right to it.
