Today’s byelection in the Quebec riding of Marie-Victorin is a little appetizer of the general election main course scheduled for October. Join me and Philippe J. Fournier of 338Canada.com as we watch the votes get counted and dissect what it all means.

This riding in Longueuil on the south shore has been held by the Parti Québécois (with one brief exception) since the days of René Lévesque. But with the party sinking in the polls, could a defeat in Marie-Victorin foreshadow a disastrous province wide election result in October? Or could a victory signal that the PQ is not quite dead yet?
The intrigue doesn’t end there. The Coalition Avenir Québec doesn’t need to win this seat, but a win would be a morale booster in this election year. The Quebec Liberals and Québec Solidaire are also looking for something to feel good about, as both parties contend to be the main alternative to the CAQ.
They aren’t alone in that fight, as the Quebec Conservatives under Éric Duhaime have been surging in the polls. Might a strong result in Marie-Victorin provide a sign that those polling numbers are for real?
Join the YouTube livestream starting at 8 PM ET, and it will keep running until we have a result!
I’ll have a reminder email sent out later tonight. Hope to see you there!
