Fair enough discussion, but shortly after listening to this, I received an email from a friend who is organizing a by-election campaign. He volunteered that he was struggling with the HQ because they constantly had to be told about the various villages in the district. An election is an election is an election.

But by-elections have a special quality.

During a provincial or national election election many low-information voters (sadly, there are many) will finally get the point that there's an election on because of all the media coverage. This is alluded in today's discussion but I would have given much more weight to the importance of an across the board and intense campaign on the premise that, with the exception of the highly partisan, few care about the winning or losing of a seat since, generally, the government party is not at risk. You need to speak to electors who are thinking about the kind of representation they want.
